The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds drivers in San Antonio and throughout Bexar County to begin preparing for new vehicle emissions testing requirements under House Bill 3297. Beginning November 1, 2026, vehicles registered in Bexar County will be required to pass an emissions test prior to registration. These emissions tests are not the same as the former comprehensive vehicle safety inspections, which were eliminated on January 1, 2025.
DPS encourages drivers to start preparing now by keeping their vehicles properly maintained.
